About Us
Back to Basics Health Group is a mobile, multidisciplinary allied health provider supporting children, adolescents and adults across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. We provide practical, personalised support in the places where everyday life happens.
Keeping People At The Centre Of Trusted Allied Health
Trusted allied health begins with understanding the person, what’s important to them, and where support needs to happen to make a real difference. We work with the person and the people around them to provide connected support that makes sense in everyday life.
Our multidisciplinary team supports children and adolescents, adults and older adults. We provide a range of best practice allied health services, including:
Occupational Therapy
Positive Behaviour Support
Social Work
Allied Health Assistants
Speech Pathology
Physiotherapy
Osteopathy
Group Therapy Programs.
Founded in 2011, Back to Basics has been a registered NDIS provider since 2013. We also support people receiving services through My Aged Care associated-provider arrangements and clients using a range of other funding pathways such as TAC, DVA, WorkSafe and private health insurance.
Our Story
Back to Basics began with a gap that needed to be filled.
In 2007, our founder and Director, Andrew Charalambous, was working as an occupational therapist in a special development school. He saw that children and families needed more support to connect what was happening at school with life at home and in the community.
Andrew moved into private practice in 2011, with a focus on personalised, strengths-based therapy delivered in the places where people live and participate. Back to Basics became a registered NDIS provider in 2013 and grew into a multidisciplinary team.
As the children and families we supported moved through different stages of life, we grew with them. Today, we support everyone from children to older adults, while remaining grounded in the same people-first approach.
What “back to basics” Means to Us
For us, getting back to basics means focusing on what really matters: people, connection, confidence, progress and everyday life.
Good support starts with understanding what is important to each person and where they want to make a difference. We shape therapy around the person’s goals, strengths, routines, relationships and environments, rather than expecting the person to fit around a standard approach.
Our Values
Our values shape how we support people, work with their families and support networks, and contribute as members of the Back to Basics team.

People come first
We listen to each person and respect their choices, goals, strengths and circumstances. We keep what matters to them central to our support.

We work better together
We collaborate with each person, their support network and other professionals to share knowledge and work towards common goals.

Caring at Our Core
We approach people with warmth, compassion and understanding, caring about their experiences and the quality of support we provide.

Personal and Practical Support
We use evidence-informed strategies that fit each person’s goals, routines and relationships, making support practical for everyday life.

A Safe and Respectful Place
We create relationships and environments where each person feels safe, heard and valued, with their identity and privacy respected.

We are Open and Honest
We communicate clearly about what to expect, welcome questions and acknowledge our limits. We take responsibility for our actions.
Mobile Support With A Home Base
We support people in the environments where everyday life happens. Depending on the person’s needs and location, this may include their home, school, workplace, community or supported living environment. Appointments may also be available via telehealth.
Our purpose-built Burwood East home base gives us another way to provide practical support. It is an accessible house designed to feel like a natural home environment, with real household spaces, adaptive equipment and visual supports.
People can use the home base to develop skills that transfer into everyday life. It is also used for appointments, group programs, team collaboration and professional learning.
We Are A Connected Multidisciplinary Team
Although much of our work takes place across the community, our team regularly comes together to share knowledge, successes and challenges. This helps our practitioners remain connected and strengthens the support we provide.
Our different disciplines bring different perspectives, but we share one purpose: to help make everyday life easier by supporting people with the right therapy in the right place to work towards their goals.
We value thoughtful collaboration, clear communication and ongoing learning, both within our team and with the people and communities we support.
